Aaron Rodgers will not return to the New York Jets next season. The 41-year-old quarterback will be a free agent in exactly 31 days who is eligible to sign with any team in the NFL.
The organization informed him of its decision after he flew to New Jersey to meet with the organization last week.
Rodgers has yet to officially announce if he is going to play another year in the National Football League. However, his trip back to the Meadowlands to discuss his future seemed to indicate that he would like to return for a 21st season. This new development might change his mind. We’ll see.
Jay Glazar of Fox Sports first reported the news while at the Super Bowl in New Orleans.

He thinks Rodgers will be back in 2025 but not with the team that traded for him in 2023, obviously.
Big scoopage: Aaron Rodgers flew back to New Jersey last week to meet with the Jets about his future with the team, only to be told that the team was moving on from him. If that means that he will be a June 1 designation that allows him to sign with any team in the league on March 12 if he decides to continue to play. Given that Aaron made the effort to fly back to discuss his future, all signs point to him continuing to play. It just won’t be for the Jets.

Although the New York Jets won only five games during a disastrous run last season, its quarterback played much better than the haters would like to admit. Aaron Rodgers’ stats were not that far off from league MVP Josh Allen.
- JOSH ALLEN
- 3,731 passing yards
- 28 passing touchdowns
- 6 interceptions
- 63.6% completion clip
- AARON RODGERS
- 3,897 passing yards
- 28 passing touchdowns
- 11 interceptions
- 63.0% completion clip
Things did not work out in the Big Apple. We all know what happened with the ouster of Robert Saleh and all of the quarterback-focused roster moves like the Davante Adams trade. It was an optics nightmare that people who don’t know ball blamed entirely on the quarterback.
But with that being said, the Jets lost seven games by six points or less. The season almost looked completely different and New York’s defense was just as a much at fault as Aaron Rodgers.
Should the four-time MVP ultimately decide to run it back, he will be a very popular veteran option for teams in the market for a quarterback. The Raiders, Giants, Colts, Titans, Browns and Saints are most in need. The Rams, Vikings and Steelers may also be in the mix.
