Oscar-nominated actress Ana de Armas has been catching heat for her relationship with Manuel Anido Cuesta, the stepson of Cuba’s dictator Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez. Recent photos, first published by Spanish media, show Ana de Armas in Madrid with Manuel Anido Cuesta, who is ten years her junior.
Cuesta is the stepson of Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, Cuba’s current authoritarian “President” and the hand-picked successor to Raul Castro. Díaz-Canel Bermúdez is Cuba’s first leader in sixty years to not have the surname Castro.
Ana de Armas, 36 year old, has previously dated Spanish actor Marc Clotet, actor and director Ben Affleck, and Tinder vice-president Paul Boukadakis.
“de Armas was pictured on a romantic stroll in Madrid with 26-year-old Manuel Anido Cuesta, the stepson of Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, who was handpicked by Raul Castro and ‘chosen’ in an election in which there were no opposition challengers allowed.
“Diaz Canel has overseen the collapse of Cuba’s economy and continued the Castro doctrine that allows no opposition parties or protests against the ruling party. Like the Castros before him, he has been accused of overseeing massive human rights abuses.” [via The Daily Mail]
Tefi Pessoa calls out Ana de Armas for dating the stepson of Cuba’s President:
“Ana de Armas, in Madrid, kissing that man, the stepson of a dictator, is a slap in the face of the community that supports her, not even the Latin community, but her Cuban community.” pic.twitter.com/XM3KFXeiLu

Not everyone has been critical of de Armas, however, with some arguing that she’s “an actual cuban that lived there until she was 18.”
After bursting onto the scene in the late 2010s and early 2020s as one of the fastest rising A-list actresses in Hollywood thanks to performances in films such as Hands of Stone, War Dogs, Blade Runner 2049, and Knives Out. She was also nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actress in 2022 for her performance as Marilyn Monroe in the controversial Netflix film Blonde.
A run of films that include Deep Water, The Gray Man, and Ghosted (plus the backlash to Blonde), however, has seen de Armas’ career stall a bit over the last year or two. That will likely all change next summer, however, when she stars in the title role in From the World of John Wick: Ballerina.
