Auburn senior baseball player Andrew Dutton made his debut with the Tigers in their final midweek contest of the regular season on Tuesday. The walk-on infielder made the most of his moment.
He homered in his first plate appearance with his new school. It made his decision to transfer to Auburn all the more worth it.
Dutton previously played four seasons at D3 school Birmingham-Southern. He was an All-Region performer with the Panthers that hit .340 in his final campaign to lead his squad to the College World Series.
Dutton’s success at the dish was noted. He hit .340 or better in three of his four seasons while starting 178 games.
Andrew Dutton stats:
Fr. – .350 / 15 RBIs
So. – .396 / 3 HR / 49 RBIs
Jr. – .273 / 32 RBIs
Sr. – .340 / 7 HRs / 42 RBIs
Prior to beginning that college career, he was named the 2019 Hitter of the Year at Westbrook Christian High. He can really swing it!
After his final season at Birmingham-Southern, the school closed its doors. He was forced to play one final season elsewhere. Dutton landed at Auburn, where his brother is a senior pitcher.
Andrew Dutton has served as Auburn baseball’s 1st base coach.
You can see him in the coach’s box donning his No. 4 jersey in the photo at the top of the article. He’d not seen the field outside of those duties in 2025. That changed on Tuesday.
The Tigers hosted Jacksonville State and made quick work of the Gamecocks. Auburn jumped out to a 5-0 first inning lead and added two more in the second before blowing the game open with an 11-run fourth frame.
Dutton entered the contest in the bottom of the fifth with the Tigers leading 18-0. He made a pinch-hit appearance to grab his first at-bat of the year, and didn’t disappoint!

Dutton launched a pitch well over the rightfield wall. Teammates erupted while watching the no-doubter disappear into the night.
“I was just looking for the heater,” Dutton said after the game. “He missed with it the first pitch… I was just waiting on that one pitch the whole at-bat. It happened to be right there.
“That was awesome, to even be able to get an at-bat, and to be able to experience the crowd and the dugout going crazy.”
Dutton will likely return to his first base coach duties for the season ending series against Ole Miss. The second-ranked Auburn baseball team will then look ahead to the SEC and NCAA Tournaments. The walk-on infielder hopes the season ends with his second straight College World Series appearance this summer.
