Through three games, the Pittsburgh Steelers defense has been a wagon. TJ Watt, Minkah Fitzpatrick, and the rest of the game have absolutely suffocated the Falcons, Broncos, and Chargers in the first three weeks of the season.
The ferocious Steelers pass rush and solid secondary should be a concern for every team the rest of the season, as they’re good enough to single-handedly win a football game. But, Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson doesn’t seem to concerned.
Richardson has been struggling so far this season, year that is essentially a second rookie season for the 2023 4th-overall pick. Despite a few highlight plays, Richardson has a passer rating of just 55.9, with 3 touchdowns and 6 interceptions. Some growing pains were expected, but he’s playing at a really low level.
Members of the Steelers defense should be licking their chops facing a quarterback playing as poorly as Anthony Richardson. Given what they’ve done to other quarterbacks so far, it’s looking bleak for the Colts offense.
But, Anthony Richardson doesn’t think so. In fact, he’s not concerned with the Steelers defense.
According to Steeler Nation, here is what Richardson had to say at his Thursday media availability.
“You know, we do have to acknowledge that they are a great team. They have a great scheme over there, have great players, we all know that. But we don’t necessarily have any concerns. We feel like we can matchup with anybody, so we’re just trying to play our offense and just execute, you know play by play. Not really thinking about who’s on the other side.”
Anthony Richardson could’ve and should’ve been more honest about the Steelers defense. A more honest answer would’ve admitted that they do a lot of things that would make any offense in the league concerned, and that they have their work cut out for them. Instead, he gave TJ Watt bulletin board material. I can’t see how that ends well.
