Comedian Bert Kreischer was asked to give the pregame hype speech to the FSU Football team before they faced Alabama in their season opener at Doak Campbell Stadium in Tallahassee.
Bert spent 6 years at FSU and back in 1997 he was the focus of a RollingStone article calling him the “the top partyer at the Number One Party School in the country” because FSU was ranked the #1 Party School in the country that year by The Princeton Review. I only did one extra semester at FSU so Bert’s got 3 semesters on me but I do find it incredible he has somehow became the face of FSU alumni in recent years.
Bert Kreischer Recounts FSU’s Speech Before Alabama Game
I don’t know if y’all heard, but FSU is back. The polls say so. The numbers say so. Bert Kreischer knows FSU is back. And so do the 90K fans who were at Doak S. Campbell Stadium in Tallahassee for the season opener against Alabama. Last year appears to be a figment of imagination at this point.
But back to the speech… Bert was a guest on the Rich Eisen Show this week and talked about the honor of being chosen to give that hype speech. He said he went in there with the ‘gentlemen, start your engines’ energy from Kevin James in the infamous NASCAR speech.
It worked. Of course, it worked. Bert is beloved by every Seminole at this point and he had the entire stadium going nuts with his speech. Here he is talking about what it was like being out there for that moment.
A shorter version of Bert’s story is available on TikTok if you’d rather watch that but the full story on YouTube is a lot better. Also, for those that want to see the actual speech, here’s a snippet:
For those unaware, Bert and his time at FSU were the inspiration behind National Lampoon’s: Van Wilder with Ryan Reynolds.
He is both a legend on campus and arguably one of the greatest collegiate partiers of all time. There was never a doubt in my mind that he wouldn’t bring enough energy for that speech. I would like to see the FSU AD bring Bert back for the Miami game on October 4th….
