Bill Belichick lost yet another college football game on Saturday. North Carolina failed to score a single touchdown against Wake Forest.

Its head coach also showed a severe lack of respect for Jake Dickert during the postgame handshake after he called an unnecessary timeout late in the fourth quarter.

These two college football programs clearly do not like each other. They officially have beef.

Bill Belichick called a timeout.

The Demon Deacons held a 21-12 lead with five minutes and 16 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter. The game was not over by any stretch of the imagination but it certainly did not look good for the Tar Heels.

And then Wake Forest drove 53 yards on nine plays in four minutes and 37 seconds to set up 4th-and-goal from the two-yard-line with 27 seconds left on the clock.

It was over! Dickert seemed to be content with the win and prepared to take a knee to end the game, or so it appeared. The offense was ready to kill the clock. One kneel down at the goal line would’ve done it.

Bill Belichick called a timeout.

A kneel down would’ve resulted in a turnover on downs because of the timeout so Dickert decided to run a play. Robby Ashford scored one final touchdown to put an exclamation point on the victory, which led to a small kerfuffle near the end zone.

The Demon Deacons won by a final score of 28-12.

Jake Dickert removed his cap for the postgame handshake.

As is customary, the two head coaches met at midfield for a handshake after the game. Belichick did not duck out on the handshake but he certainly did not give Dickert the respect he deserved.

The latter removed his hat to look the eight-time Super Bowl champion in the eye as they shook hands. The former blew right by him. No eye contact. Nothing.

Now — to be completely fair — Bill Belichick does not often stick around to chat, historically speaking. His handshakes are always pretty quick, especially after a loss.

However, he started to be more open to conversation and cordiality during the later years of his NFL career.

There are also multiple examples of Belichick’s postgame handshakes with people he openly did not like in the past, like Eric Mangini. He still looked the opposing coach in the eye.

This is how Belichick shook hands with Frank Reich after a win over Stanford last weekend:

The snub (or whatever you want to call it) on Saturday was intentional.

When asked about the timeout, Belichick claimed “he didn’t know what Wake Forest was going to do” and wanted to stop the Deacs on defense. When asked what he said to Jake Dickert during the brief no-eye-contact handshake, Belichick said only, “congratulations.”

This kind of press conference is completely on brand for Bill Belichick. That doesn’t make it any better.
