In April, UFC Hall of Famer B.J. Penn claimed in a series of disturbing social media posts that his family was “murdered and replaced with imposters.” This past Sunday evening in Hawaii he was arrested and charged with abuse family or household member: offensive physical contact.

On top of that, Penn also shared disturbing video of his arrest. In the video, Penn is in bed surrounded by half a dozen police officers and asking why he was being arrested.

“How did I break the law?” B.J. Penn, 46, can be heard asking the police officers.

“How can I be under arrest for harassment? This is my house,” Penn said to the cops. “I just went to go grab the mail. Can we call an officer I know that can talk to you guys? Why am I being arrested again? What kind of harassment? What does harassment mean?”

He was eventually hauled out of bed and placed in handcuffs. According to arrest records, Penn posted a $2,000 bail and was released around 2 a.m.

Much like with his bizarre conspiracy videos of the past in which he claimed his mother and brothers were all murdered and replaced by imposters.

“In Hawaii, ‘impostor theft’ refers to instances where individuals falsely impersonate others, often to steal their identity or commit fraudulent acts,” he wrote in the caption to his arrest video on Instagram. “This can involve using a fake identity to obtain documents, financial accounts, or even posing as law enforcement or other professionals to commit crimes.”

MMA Fighting reports that a protective restraining order filed by B.J. Penn’s ex Shealen Uaiwa was approved by a judge on May 20 after Penn failed to appear in court. The restraining order, which also included two children, runs through March 10, 2030.

During his mixed martial arts career, B.J. Penn became just the second person in UFC history to win titles in multiple weight classes. He was also the first non-Brazilian to win the World Jiu-Jitsu Championship at black belt level. Unfortunately, he finished his MMA career on a seven-fight losing streak, going 1-9-1 in his final 11 fights after a 15-5-1 start.
