What should have been a regular Copa Bolivia quarterfinal soccer match between Club Blooming and Real Oruro descended into chaos when the two sides came to blows.

Club Blooming advanced, 4-3 on aggregate. But the match ended with an absolutely wild brawl that saw the referee hand out a jaw-dropping 17 red cards.

According Bolivian outlet El Potosi, it all began when Real Oruro’s Sebastian Zeballos had to be held back by a number of Blooming players, which led to a shoving match. Zeballos’ teammate Julio Vila then began to throw punches, triggering a large brawl that spilled off the field..

Oruro’s coach Marcelo Robledo was EVEN pushed over after being confronted by another coach. Robledo was reportedly sent to the hospital with shoulder and head injuries.

More than a dozen police officers had to step in and separate the players before the brawl spilled into the stands.

The referee gave red cards to Blooming players: Gabriel Valverde, Richet Gomez, Roberto Melgar, Franco Posse, Cesar Romero, and Luis Suarez. All were carded for violent conduct and will miss the rest of the Copa Bolivia.

For Oruruo, Vila and teammates Raul Gomez, Yerco Vallejos and Eduardo Alvarez were all red-carded. Several members of the support staffs for each team also received red cards.

Referee Renán Castillo sent a report to the Sports Disciplinary Tribunal in Bolivia, meaning that punishment could also exceed what has already been handed down.
