How many kids do you suppose have dreamed about playing Major League Baseball? And how many of the very few who actually achieved that dream have also dreamed about playing in the World Series?
Now imagine you were drafted as a pitcher in the second round of the Major League Baseball Draft, filled with those hopes, and for the next 10 years you only got to pitch 94 innings in the big leagues?
Now imagine how you would feel once you finally were given that chance to play in a World Series.
You don’t have imagine it, because as Spectrum SportsNet LA reporter Kirsten Watson found out Monday night when she interviewed reliever Brent Honeywell Jr. in the Dodgers’ winning locker room, it means the world.
Honeywell, who played baseball for Walters State Community College in Morristown, Tenn., was picked in the second round of the 2014 MLB Draft by the Tampa Bay Rays.
Since that day, he has pitched for the Princeton Rays, Charlotte Stone Crabs, Bowling Green Hot Rods, Montgomery Biscuits, Peoria Javelinas, Durham Bulls, Las Vegas Aviators, Stockton Ports, Leones del Escogido, Indianapolis Indians, Oklahoma City Baseball Club, Tampa Bay Rays, San Diego Padres, Chicago White Sox, Pittsburgh Pirates, and now, the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Oh yeah, he also missed 1,298 days between 2017 and 2021 while undergoing four arm surgeries.
So, yeah, he was pretty choked up when Kirsten Watson caught up to him in the Dodgers’ celebratory locker room.
“There’s a lot of people in my life that I have to thank for this,” Honeywell said. “This is a dream, so many people have, to be living this out. I know it’s hard to put into words. To share this moment with these guys, I have to imagine it’s special.”

“My younger self is freakin’ out,” Honeywell added. “It’s all I’ve ever wanted to do my whole life.”
