An upcoming Netflix documentary on Brett Favre will delve into the former NFL quarterback’s numerous scandals and how people covered for him, until they didn’t. The documentary, part of the Untold series, is titled The Fall of Favre.

The Fall of Favre is being produced by EverWonder Studio, Time Studios, and Front Office Sports and will air on May 20. According to Michael McCarty of Front Office Sports, “The rise and fall of Brett Favre is a cautionary tale for today’s athletes. The more entitled and invincible they believe they are, the more likely they are to self-destruct. They may get away with their behavior in the short term. But they leave a trail of victims in their wake. Eventually, their chickens come home to roost.”

There are no shortages of controversies for the documentary to cover when it comes to the Hall of Fame quarterback. Among them are how people in Green Bay covered for Brett Favre’s partying, his sexual harassment of New York Jets team host Jenn Sterger, his legal battles with Pat McAfee and Shannon Sharpe, and the welfare funds scandal that he is currently embroiled in down in Mississippi.

“I’ve always been drawn to the stories filled with nuance and complexity, and when it comes to sports biggest stars, what’s on the other side of fame?” one of the documentary’s executive producers Rebecca Gitlitz said, adding, “The Untold series has shown time and time again that they are willing to tell unfiltered stories no matter the depth.

“So, making this film on Brett Favre for this series felt like the worlds were aligning. This story about one of the greatest quarterbacks in history goes beyond touchdowns and epic wins and lifts the lid on how when fame rises, sometimes accountability falls. It was made with the intention of laying out patterns of behaviors, told from the people who lived with the consequences of Favre’s actions, to ask audiences to consider if success should be a shield for harmful behavior. Ultimately, the film challenges all of us to consider when we let our heroes go too far, who is to blame? And when the dust settles, can we have honest conversations about the humanity of all of those involved.”
