Caitlin Clark said something to Gabby Williams at the WNBA All-Star Game that left her in shock. We may never find out what led to such a demonstrative reaction but one common theory has emerged.
Meanwhile, some non-Indiana Fever fans are concerned about tampering.
All of the top WNBA players gathered in Indianapolis over the weekend. Clark was talking to everybody!
Is there legitimate cause for concern?
The answer to that question depends on who you ask. Most people would say no. This kind of thing is going to happen when a large group of people get together in the same place for an extended period of time. There will be conversations between players on different teams. GASP!
With that being said, it was something that non-Fever fans kept a close eye on throughout the weekend.
Clark served as one of the captains for the All-Star Game but she did not play. That did not stop her from talking to players on the other team, who do not play with her during the regular season.
Napheesa Collier joked that Caitlin Clark was tampering with the StudBudz.

Clark later recruited Sabrina Ionescu to Indiana with a not-so-subtle comment on Instagram.

Liberty fans were split in three. One portion of the fanbase was excited about the idea of Clark in New York. One portion of the fanbase was furious that Clark was encouraging Ionescu to leave for the Fever. The other portion of the fanbase doesn’t care.
What did Caitlin Clark say to Gabby Williams?
Clark was in the background of a live shot on ESPN after the game on Saturday night. She was talking to Gabby Williams.
Fans immediately cried tampering. They thought the former was recruiting the latter to Indiana.

Here’s the thing. Williams signed a one-year deal to stay with the Storm in February, which would’ve made her a free agent after this season. However, Seattle designated her as its “core player” so she will receive a one-year qualifying offer at the maximum salary but she will not be a free agent after all.
That leaves just one question: what did Caitlin Clark say to Gabby Williams to make her react like this?

The most popular theory stems from a heated exchange with a referee. Clark got into it with an official during last week’s game against the Connecticut Sun.
WNBA sleuths hypothesized that Clark told Williams what the referee said to set her off. Williams, based on her reaction, was shocked.
I can neither confirm nor deny this theory. It would make a lot of sense but we just have no way to know. The concerns about tampering seem like a stretch to me!
