Could Indiana Fever superstar Caitlin Clark make a surprise return to the court in the WNBA playoffs? What once seemed like an impossibility now doesn’t sound so far-fetched after Clark’s comments on a recent livestream.

Clark, who is dealing with a groin injury that severely hampered her sophomore campaign, announced on Sept. 4 that she would not return to play in 2025.

“I had hoped to share a better update, but I will not be returning to play this season,” Clark posted. “I spent hours in the gym every day with the singular goal of getting back out there. Disappointed isn’t a big enough word to describe how I am feeling.”

But now that may not prove to be true.

Caitlin Clark Says She’s Playing In WNBA Playoffs…With A Catch

Clark appeared on teammate Sydney Colson’s Instagram Live stream on Friday night from what appeared to be the Indiana Fever team hotel.

While off camera, Clark asked if the fans watching the stream heard that she was playing in Sunday’s first-round playoff game against the Atlanta Dream.

“I will I got a big game coming up Sunday….oh shoot, did they just hear I’m playing?” she said, before teammate Aliyah Boston followed up and asked Clark if she’s playing.

Now, herein lies the catch. Clark has become extremely aware in the last year or so that every single thing she does or says is scrutinized. Because of this, she’s often decided to have fun with it, joking with fans and the media.

It’s extremely likely that this was another example of that, with Clark playing with the emotions of fans who hang on her every word.

HOWEVER, if she does make a surprise return for the WNBA playoffs, it would be a huge boon for both the Fever and the league as a whole.
