Caitlin Clark started her second WNBA campaign off on a high note by posting a triple-double in a season-opening win. Her incredible performance helped the Fever blow out Angel Reese and the Chicago Sky.

Indiana won the game 93-58. They dominated the contest from start to finish. Clark’s outing not only provided an emphatic introduction to Year 2, but it also secured one basketball bettor a massive payday.

Dave Portnoy of Barstool Sports placed a 25,000 wager on Caitlin Clark’s success. He predicted a triple-double, which came with 13/1 odds.

Clark came through with a 20-point outing that included 10 rebounds and 10 assists. She led all scorers on a 6-for-13 shooting performance, going 4-of-8 from beyond the arc.

The bet cashed with just over two minutes remaining in action. It came down to the wire! Clark re-entered the game late in the fourth quarter of play one rebound shy of her mark. She secured a defensive board at the 2:22 mark before exiting the contest for good a few moments later.

The triple-double paid Dave Portnoy $350,000. His massive win was greater than any WNBA player’s annual salary!

Dave Portnoy’s payout was as much as Caitlin Clark’s four-year contract value.

Clark will make just under $80,000 this season after signing four-year rookie deal worth $338,056. This does not include her endorsements, which far exceed that number.

The highest paid player in the WNBA, by salary, is Fever teammate Kelsey Mitchell. The guard will make $249,244 this season according to Spotrac.

Portnoy’s payout was $100,000 more than the highest paid WNBA player’s annual salary. The gambling win offered an incredible visual.

WNBA player pay has been a topic of discussion over the last few years. Clark’s introduction into the league has helped boost viewership numbers.

Many believe she’s underpaid given her popularity and impact. Her off-the-court income certainly helps bridge that gap. After winning Rookie of the Year last season, the success continued in her 2025 debut. Dave Portnoy was the biggest beneficiary!
