Seattle Mariners slugger Cal Raleigh launched his 59th and 60th home runs of the season on Wednesday night during the M’s playoff-clinching 9-2 win over the Colorado Rockies. The Mariners are now headed to the playoffs for the first time since the year 2001.
Cal Raleigh hit his second home run of the game and 60th of the season in the eighth inning off of Colorado Rockies receiver Angel Chivilli. The 28-year-old catcher has four games left in the regular season to either tie or surpass Aaron Judge’s 2022 record of 62 home runs in a season.
“Big Dumper” now joins Babe Ruth (1927), Roger Maris (1961), Mark McGwire (1998, ’99), Sammy Sosa (1998, ’99, 2001), Barry Bonds (2001) and Aaron Judge (2022) as the only played in MLB history to reach the 60 home run mark in a season.
Seattle Mariners fan who caught Cal Raleigh’s 60th home run ball hailed for immediately giving it to a nearby kid
Given the historic nature of Raleigh’s 60th home run ball, whoever wound up catching it lucked into quite the lottery ticket. The person who caught it, however, is being hailed as the “Anti Phillies Karen” — a woman who went viral at a Phillies game a few weeks back for demanding a home run ball off a father and his child — for giving the ball to a young fan.

“It’s crazy. Sixty is — I don’t know what to say. I didn’t know if I was going to hit 60 in my life. Just tonight, what a way to do it,” Raleigh said.
“To do it in this fashion, on this night, in front of these fans, Mom and Dad, obviously, was really cool. It’s 20-plus years since we’ve done something like this, and it’s special. It’s special to this group, to this organization, to the city.”
In addition to Raleigh launching his 59th and 60th home runs of the season, the Seattle Mariners also clinched their first postseason berth since 2001.
As the #2 seed in the American League, the Mariners have clinched a bye ad will face the winner of the Wild Card series betwee the Cleveland Guardians and Detroit Tigers in the ALDS.
