Cam Schlittler was a major reason the Yankees earned the right to face off against the Blue Jays in the ALDS, but he wasn’t able to get the win they needed to stay alive against the Blue Jays on Wednesday night. He was more than happy to talk smack to Red Sox fans by telling them to turn their attention to the Bruins after ending their season, and he poked fun at himself after those comments failed to age well.
There aren’t any MLB teams with more bad blood than the Red Sox and the Yankees, and fans are always in for a treat when the two teams end up meeting in the playoffs. Unfortunately, those showdowns have sadly been few and far between since the legendary tilts in 2003 and 2004 that ended with Boston finally breaking The Curse of the Bambino.
It took the two sides close to 15 years to meet again in the postseason after the Red Sox won the World Series for the first time in 86 years, and we got another entry in the canon when the heated rivals went head-to-head in this year’s wild card round.
Boston took a 1-0 lead with a 3-0 victory before the Yankees evened things up with a 4-3 win, and the Bronx Bombers ultimately advanced after Cam Schlittler had a spotless eight-inning outing where he recorded 12 strikeouts and no walks in his team’s 4-0 triumph.
The Massachusetts native wasn’t afraid to chirp back at Red Sox fans who slid into his mentions after the win, and he hilariously referenced his decision to invoke the Bruins during one exchange after his rookie year came to an end.
Cam Schlittler changed his profile picture to the Bruins logo after the Yankees were eliminated from the playoffs
There are plenty of professional athletes who have ended up playing for the teams they grew up rooting against.
Schlittler, who was born in Walpole, Massachusetts and stayed local by pitching at Northeastern in college, joined those ranks when he made his MLB debut with the Yankees in July, three years after they drafted him in the seventh round.
He probably had some mixed feelings when he donned the pinstripes for the first time, but he’s fully embraced being a member of the Yankees—as evidenced by a tweet he sent after a Red Sox fan accused him of being a fake Bostonian in the wake of his clutch performance against the Red Sox.
Went to school in bos for 3 years, I live in Southie during the off season, start preparing for the bruins szn homie ✌️

You may have noticed Schlittler’s profile picture is the Bruins logo, but that was not the case when he sent the tweet out.
He opted to do some redecorating on social media after being credited with the loss to the Blue Jays on Wednesday night during a respectable outing where he surrendered two runs in 6.1 innings as Toronto advanced to the ALCS with the 5-2 win.
The profile picture wasn’t the only tweak, as he also updated his banner to a picture of TD Garden.

There was one bright spot for him on Wednesday, as the Bruins opened up their season with a 3-1 win over the Capitals.
