New York Giants running back Cam Skattebo will be the first person to take himself out of an NFL game if he has any concerns about a possible concussion. His unusual head shake after almost every play is not an indication of an injury, nor is it cause for concern.

The 23-year-old picked up the unique twitch long before he arrived to the NFL. It just so happened to become a very prominent part of his pre- and post-snap behavior over the last 18 months or so.

Cam Skattebo has a big head.

Skattebo, whose name is actually pronounced SKAT-eh-boo, is a rookie. He was drafted by the New York Giants with the No. 105 overall pick in the fourth round.

The 5-foot-10, 220-pound running back transferred to Arizona State in 2023 after two years at Sacramento State. He was good as a junior. He was great as a senior.

Skattebo is impossible to bring down. It’s as if you were to try and tackle a giant bouncy ball made of knives.

Unmatched contact balance is the primary catalyst for Skattebo’s success but his giant head and large frame certainly help. Pat McAfee is a big fan.

Kyle Brandt cannot get enough of his Angry Runs.

And his head really is that big… Just ask Jaxson Dart!

They head-butt before every practice and game.

The head shake is not new.

A large number of casual fans got their first taste of Cam Skattebo during the Big 12 Championship. They could not understand why he shakes his head back and ford after every single play and expressed their confusion on social media. Some of them assumed it was related to a head injury.

That same confusion carried into the New Year when Arizona State played Texas in the College Football Playoff at the Peach Bowl. New fans were concerned that he was dealing with a potential concussion.

Those concerns followed him to the NFL.

Cam Skattebo did not stop shaking his head before every play upon arrival to the New York Giants. It’s not something he is going to change. There is no reason to be concerned!

Although it is a logical hypothesis, Skattebo’s head shake has nothing to do with the collisions. Well, it does, but it doesn’t. Not for the reason you might think.

Skattebo’s helmet used to stick to his head before he wore his hair longer and had a beard. The helmet would drive him insane if it was out of place so he would shake his head to let it loose. That was how the head shake started. It has since become more of an OCD-type tick.

New Giants viewers should have no fear. The head shake is not related to a concussion or any kind of discomfort. Welcome to the Cam Skattebo experience!
