The 2025 NFL Draft is now officially less than a month away and Miami quarterback Cam Ward and Penn State edge rush Abdul Carter are still vying to be the first player selected by the Tennessee Titans. Ward impressed scouts on Monday during his Pro Day at the Hurricanes’ practice facility, and afterward, he had a bold and confident message for Titans general manager Mike Borgonzi.
“[I told him] ‘I’m solidifying it today,'” Ward said when asked what he told Borgonzi. “They finally got to see me throw in person. That should be all they need to see. But at the end of the day … I’m going to be happy whatever team I go to. I’m just trying to play football.”
Cam Ward Gaining Momentum As Potential No. 1 Pick In 2025 NFL Draft
Most mock drafts initially had Carter, who missed the combine due to shoulder and foot injuries, as the favorite to go off the board at No. 1 to Tennessee. But as is commonplace as the process rolls on, Ward, a quarterback, has slowly made a push for the No. 1 spot.
“As we inch closer to the draft, it’s beginning to look more and more likely that Ward will be the first overall pick, whether it’s to the Titans or one of the QB-needy teams that sit close behind them in the order, if one were to trade up to No. 1. In this case, Tennessee stays put and gets a fresh start at the position,” NFL.com‘s Daniel Jeremiah said in his latest mock draft.
That would leave Carter, presumably, to the Cleveland Browns at No. 2 where he could well form the league’s best past rush opposite superstar Myles Garrett, who recently walked back his trade request to sign a four-year, $160 million contract that will keep him in Cleveland.
Carter, meanwhile, is set to work out on Friday at Penn State’s Pro Day and could well vault himself back into the conversation at No. 1 with an eye-popping performance.
