Canelo Alvarez’s shocking loss over the weekend has people wondering if all was well within Canelo’s camp.

On Saturday night, the Mexican superstar suffered a shocking unanimous decision loss to Terence Crawford.

“I always tried, all the rounds I tried,” Canelo said..…. We knew Crawford is a great fighter and I did what I was supposed to do, right? I tried to do everything, trained really hard. He deserves all of the credit. I tried my best, and I could not figure out the style.”

Behind the scenes, Canelo may have been dealing with a bit too much.

Throughout fight week, there were rumblings that Canelo’s business manager, Richard Schaefer, was causing unnecessary drama for everyone involved in the promotion.

A source close to the promotion of the event tells us that Schaefer would constantly ensure that he was either on stage or on camera next to Canelo,  even for things he was not scheduled to be on stage for.

Schaefer’s behavior during fight week frustrated representatives from Netflix and Saudi Arabia,  and possibly Canelo himself.

“Richard Schaefer consistently sought to remind people he was back in boxing.  Even if it irked all parties involved.”

According to our source, Schaefer shut down simple media requests at the last minute without telling Canelo’s team.

“He would claim Canelo refused the requests, but they never got back to Canelo or his team,”

MMA insider Fight Oracle reports that Schaefer’s presence during fight week may have also annoyed UFC CEO Dana White.

While Schaefer isn’t responsible for Canelo’s loss, his presence during fight week appeared to distract more than it helped.

It’ll be interesting to see if Canelo makes any major changes inside and outside of the ring ahead of his next fight.
