Most conspiracy theories are just that, wild notions with little concrete info to back them up. But some are different. Some have legs and the mounting evidence becomes just too much to ignore. Take, for instance, Stevie Wonder.
Everybody loves Stevie. He’s one of the greatest musicians of all time and by all accounts a fantastic human being. But there’s just one problem. There is an absolutely enormous pile of mounting evidence that suggests that Steve ain’t blind.
Earlier this week, 10-time NBA All-Star Carmelo Anthony added fuel to the fire of the “Stevie ain’t blind” conspiracy when he told the story of a hilarious interaction with the Motown legend.
On a recent episode of his 7PM in Brooklyn podcast, Anthony recalled a story about meeting Stevie Wonder at the NBA All-Star Game.
That’s not a big surprise. Stevie is a huge basketball fan and even performed the national anthem before an NBA Finals game. But what is surprising is that Stevie allegedly came up to Anthony and told him, “I love watching you play.”
How, Stevie?! HOW?!?
On its own, Anthony’s story might be wild. But again, it’s backed up by a lot of other similar stories and additional evidence. Take, for example, Shaquille O’Neal’s story about meeting Stevie in an elevator and Stevie saying hello despite O’Neal doing nothing to announce his presence.
Then, of course, there’s the legendary video of Stevie catching a falling microphone stand at a live performance despite theoretically having no way of knowing that the mic stand was falling in the first place.
Again, none of this is concrete evidence. It could all just be circumstantial. And if it turns out Stevie isn’t blind, his music is still legendary. But that would be a lot of stories and a lot of circumstantial evidence for it all to be untrue.
Stevie, we are only out here asking questions!
