Statement by Mike Tomlin on Ben Roethlisberger:
Ben Roethlisberger had an MRI on his right elbow Sunday evening and it was determined by the Steelers’ medical team that surgery will be required. We expect the surgery will be scheduled for this week. He will be placed on our Reserve/Injured List and is out for the season.
Unfortunately, the Steelers just traded third-string QB Josh Dobbs last week which only leaves them with Mason Rudolph as the only QB on their depth chart.
.@steelers recently traded QB Josh Dobbs to Jacksonville. Mason Rudolph is next on depth chart. PIT also has Devlin Hodges, the all-time FCS passing leader, on their practice squad…imagine he'll have a phone call today… https://t.co/SLs1tmePeZ

With the uncertainty at the QB position, people are calling on the Steelers to sign Colin Kaepernick, who hasn’t played a snap of professional football in nearly three years.
Colin Kaepernick should absolutely be of consideration for the #Steelers. Mike Tomlin needs a quarterback capable of making plays. It may be unlikely, but this is as ideal of a situation as any for Kap and the team that needs a QB.

So which marginal backup QB will get a job with the Steelers instead of Colin Kaepernick?

Steelers should be on the phone with Colin Kaepernick as we speak but y’all don’t wanna have that conversation https://t.co/UZ7rdlWcHe

I would love to see Colin Kaepernick play for the @steelers. https://t.co/8st5qPM871

@steelers PLEASE GO PICK UP Colin Kaepernick

@Alex_Kozora @Steelersdepot Steelers need to sign a veteran #3 QB, and it's a NO BRAINER to sign Kaepernick. Provides competition to the room and a #3 with Super Bowl Experience

I don’t know if it will happen (hasn’t happened for the last three years), but I hope the Steelers sign Colin Kaepernick. He deserves to be in the NFL. Pretty shameful how a land of the free has owners and management blackballing him for expressing something he has the right to.

Serious talk…..if the Pittsburgh Steelers don’t give Colin Kaepernick a call for him to have a simple workout NOBODY ever will. This it it folks. pic.twitter.com/7t2lmQCONk

The Steelers are probably not going to sigh Kaepernick which is a shame because he’s probably better than whichever practice squad QB the team is likely going to sign to backup Rudolph this week.
