The University of Delaware accepted an offer to join Conference USA as a full-league member, effective on July 1, 2025. Its current conference, the Coastal Athletic Association, is being extremely petty toward the Blue Hens’ college basketball program in the meantime.

Barring a run to the NCAA Tournament, they will not have one single game air on national television this season.

Delaware, the flagship university of The First State, was founded in 1743 and enrolls approximately 25,000 students with 19,000 undergraduates. Currently a member of the CAA, the university announced last November that it was beginning a two-year transition to CUSA. Although an official exit is currently less than 12 months out, all varsity programs will remain in the CAA through the 2024-2025 season. All sports except football maintain eligibility to compete for conference championships and NCAA postseason play.

Basketball is one of those sports. The Blue Hens can still win the Coastal Athletic Association’s automatic bid to March Madness as champions of the 2025 CAA Men’s Basketball Championship in March.

However, their games will not be televised up until that point.

It was announced on Thursday afternoon that CBS Sports Network will air 27 CAA men’s basketball games in 2024-25. That agreement includes 24 regular season games, the conference tournament semifinals games and the conference tournament championship.

13 college basketball programs in the CAA will play on national television on more than one occasion. One program will not play on national television on one occasion. That program is Delaware.

The Coastal Athletic Association and CBS Sports Network will not show the Blue Hens at home or on the road at any point during the regular season. They are choosing to be petty, even though the logistics of the decision do make sense at their core. Why would a conference promote a school that is leaving?!
