Is your favorite college football team’s biggest rival skirting NIL rules with improper deals? Do you wish you could do something about it?
Well, have I got news for you!
According to Amanda Christovich of Front Office Sports, the College Sports Commission, which is the new enforcement group that runs the NIL Go clearinghouse, has reportedly created a “snitch hotline” that can be used to report credible information about any alleged NIL violations.
New College Football ‘Snitch Hotline’ Meant To Stop Improper NIL Deals
Of course, the CSC is calling it an “anonymous reporting tip line,” but we much prefer the name “snitch hotline.”
As part of the House vs. NCAA settlement agreed to earlier this year, college athletes must report all NIL deals worth $600 or more with the NIL Go tool to ensure they are being offered at fair-market value for a “valid business purpose,” rather than being used as pay-for-play in disguise.
However, as Christovich reports, NIL Go only has four full-time employees, meaning that looking over each and every NIL deal in excess of $600 isn’t just infeasible, it’s impossible.
According to a recent report from Opendorse, college football players are set to rake in nearly $2 billion from NIL deals this season. Unsurprisingly, quarterbacks are set to earn the most money this season.
But wide receivers and offensive/defensive linemen are not before.
• Quarterbacks: 18%
• Receivers: 15.13%
• Offensive linemen: 14.35%
• Defensive linemen: 13.1%
• Defensive backs: 12.23%
• Linebackers: 10.75%
• Running Backs: 9.67%
The new report from Christovich does not state what constitutes a “credible” tip regarding improper NIL deals. It also does not state how the process for reporting and following up specifically works.
But you just know there are Ohio State and Michigan fans out there who can’t wait to call in violations against their rival.
