The Cooper Flagg effect was very real as Duke wiped the floor with Boston College in Chestnut Hill on Saturday afternoon. Not even an egregious inconsistency from the college basketball officiating crew could stop the Blue Devils from dominating the Eagles on both ends of the floor.

A hot mic picked up the entire exchange.

It was a packed house at Conte Forum. Tickets sold for no less than $170, compared to $1 and $2 for Boston College’s next two college basketball games. Everybody wants to see the freshman phenom in person but they poked the wrong bear.

Students chanted “overrated” at Flagg, which lit a fire underneath him. The soon-to-be No. 1 overall pick in the NBA Draft finished with 28 points, five rebounds, four assists, two blocks and two steals.

Flagg picked up a technical foul for his second block with 6:24 remaining in the second half. He yelled “gimme that s—!!!” as he swatted the ball straight down.

ACC officials heard what the five-star freshman had to say and issued a technical foul for his language. It was a weak call. They T’d him up for saying Sugar Honey Iced Tea. Fortunately, the phantom call did not impact the outcome.

Unfortunately, the ACC crew got exposed for their inconsistencies on the very next possession. Boston College blocked a shot at the rim and yelled exactly what Flagg yelled: “Gimme that s—!!”

The Eagles did not get called for a technical foul like the Blue Devils. They played on.

To issue a technical foul because Cooper Flagg said a cuss word was soft. You’ll hear worse language during a pickup game on a playground at recess. To allow Flagg’s opponent to get away with the exact same cuss word on the next possession is outrageous. Duke still won!
