Former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie had some choice words about Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell’s quality of character after the Lions dominated the Dallas Cowboys on their home turf, and Campbell had the perfect response.

After the Lions utterly dominant 47-9 win over the Cowboys in Dallas on October 13, Christie took aim at Campbell by calling him classless during a radio interview.

Christie was speaking about how the Lions decided to use trick plays with lineman reporting as eligible despite being up multiple scores and surmised that it was payback for the calls that went against Detroit in last season’s matchup between the two teams.

“That’s Dan Campbell. He’s got no class. Never has.” Christie said while appearing on Chris ‘Mad Dog’ Russo’s radio show. “So, it’s fine. Dan Campbell, that’s the way he is, and what goes around, comes around. There’ll be a time when the worm is turned.”

“The Lions got hurt by it. The Cowboys benefited by it. But now so because of that . . . you’re, you know, beating the hell out of these guys, and rub it in. I don’t think that’s what pros do, but it’s his prerogative. It’s the reputation that he’ll carry around. And quite frankly, I think most people think that’s his rep now anyway.”

Asked about Christie’s comments on Monday while speaking to the media, Campbell had a — you guessed it — classy response to the former failed Republican presidential nominee, by poking fun at himself instead of ripping Christie.

“The last time someone called me classless, I was drinking wine out of a bottle,” Campbell said. “But, no, I’m not worried about it.”

Entering Week 8, the Lions sit atop the NFC North with a record of 5-1, while the Cowboys are in 3rd in the NFC East with a record of 3-3. This weekend, the Lions will be hosting the Tenessee Titans, while the Cowboys will travel to the west coast to take on the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday Night Football.
