Danny Wolf was one of 24 players invited to the green room on NBA Draft night with hopes of being drafted early in the first round. He’d have to wait until pick No. 27 to hear his name called.

The draft slide ended when he was selected by the Brooklyn Nets near the end of Day 1. Danny Wolf’s brother was emotional after the fact.

Wolf entered the selection process with potential lottery pick buzz. Some mock drafts predicted he’d go as high as No. 14, with most expecting him to come off the board in the early-to-mid teens.

The Michigan big man watched as he was passed over time and again. The Nets ended his slide by taking him in the back end of the first round.

His family was emotional after that selection. It was a response of both joy and relief given the pre-draft outlook. Danny Wolf’s brother was particularly overcome with emotion. He was seen sobbing uncontrollably as cameras panned his way.

The reaction became an immediate NBA Draft meme.

Wolf’s brother, along with his mom and dad, were simply happy to see Danny rewarded for his production and hard work as a basketball player.

At Michigan, he averaged 13.2 points and 9.7 rebounds as a junior. He scored 14.1 points a night the year prior at Yale.

He’ll now look to become a rim protector and solid scoring option down low for the Nets. His NBA Draft slot comes with a $14.38 million value, and his first-round grade should give him a chance to compete for immediate playing time.

The big man slid further than anticipated, but he seems excited about the future. He’ll now get a chance to prove his doubters wrong by making teams that passed on him regret their decisions.
