Barstool Sports’ Dave Portnoy is addressing the horrific Patrick Beverley accusations.
Over the weekend, Beverley was arrested in a domestic violence dispute in Texas.
TMZ would later release a police report in which Beverley’s 15-year-old sister alleges that the former NBA star punched and choked her after she left her house to see her boyfriend.
According to the probable cause affidavit, Beverley’s sister told officials she left the home in the middle of the night without permission to see her boyfriend, Aiden Hilderbrand, at a nearby park on Nov. 14. When she returned home, her mother, Lisa, was awake … and told her to enter her room. Lisa then told her daughter to call Hilderbrand and tell him to pick her up.
Upon his arrival, Hilderbrand was told to go inside … and Lisa called Beverley to come over to the residence.Beverley then seemingly scolded his sister before he “grabbed her by her neck with both hands, and picked her up off the ground, by having her feet come up from the floor.” His sister claims his grasp on her neck made her feel pain and as if she was losing oxygen and unable to breathe … which lasted between 20 and 30 seconds.
The sister stated Beverley took her out of the bedroom by the neck and slammed her body against the walls of an open room area of the house. She claims Beverley then laid her on the sofa, stood on top of her and punched her “approximately one time on her left eye with a closed fist.”
Beverley, who works at Barstool Sports, has now been taken off the air by Portnoy, who initially refused to suspend his employee.
During Thursday’s edition of the ‘Unnamed Show’, Portnoy said that Beverley would be taking a leave of absence while his legal situation gets figured out.
He is taking time forced time away from Barstool And we’ll see if this turns out somehow not true. We’ll let the facts play out… certainly with what is hanging there we you can’t have them be part of what We’re doing right now and see how it settles but this Is horrible. How does it read? And if there’s any truth to It he won”t back at Barstool.
Beverley’s lawyer recently released a statement denying the allegations made by Beverley’s sister.
“I understand that the affidavit contains some negative details; however, remember that it is only one side of the story – given at a time when emotions were high. As I’ve said before, we don’t believe that the description in that affidavit is accurate, nor is it complete. Patrick is not a violent man and was not violent that night. In fact, he was very respectful with the authorities that night and encouraged others to do the same. He is the provider and protector of his family, including his little sister and his mom. He has always looked out for their wellbeing and will continue to do so. I have every expectation that when all the facts are in, Patrick will be cleared of these charges. Until then, I can only ask that everyone keep an open mind and not rush to judgment. Please remember this is America and in our society, Patrick is innocent unless proven otherwise in a court of law.”
