According to Darrelle Revis, who was a teammate at the time in New England, Tom Brady was brought to tears over the Deflategate scandal in 2015.

The scandal began with allegations following the AFC Championship Game in 2014 that Brady had ordered the deliberate deflation of the footballs used in the game to give the Patriots an advantage gripping and throwing them in the cold.

Tom Brady, after appealing his suspension, ended up being forced to sit out the first four games of the 2016 NFL season. The New England Patriots were also fined $1 million and forced to forfeit two picks in the 2016 NFL Draft.

This week, Hall of Fame cornerback Darrelle Revis, who only played that one year with the Patriots, said that at some point after the AFC Championship Game and before Super Bowl XLIX, Brady spoke to the team about Deflategate.

“When Deflategate happened and Tom was the headliner of the whole situation, he addressed us as a team,” Revis said in the Apple TV+ documentary The Dynasty: New England Patriots. “You could tell he was distraught.”

Tom Brady would, as he did with the media, deny to his teammates that he had anything to do with the footballs being deflated in the AFC Championship Game versus the Indianapolis Colts.

He tried to back this claim up with the team by telling the players that he would never do anything to jeopardize their season.

“He said, ‘This is something I wouldn’t do. I would not ruin this season for us. The allegations are false.’

“He was actually bawling his eyes out in front of us.”

Danny Amendola, who was one of Brady’s wide receivers that year in New England, added, “Tom can be a very fiery person, but he can also be emotional. “It took a massive toll on him because of his kids.”

They were, according to Amendola, hearing about the Deflategate scandal from fellow students and teachers at school.

The seventh and eighth episodes of The Dynasty: New England Patriots debut on Friday on Apple+.
