Ohio State football player Devin Sanchez was vocal about a recruiting loss recently incurred by the Buckeyes. The cornerback called an unnamed prospect “scared” after making his commitment.

While Sanchez didn’t specifically reference any particular player, most believe they’ve identified his intended target. College football fans connected the dots due to the timing of the post, as well as a fake report.

Sanchez is a former top-flight recruit that committed to play in Columbus in 2024. He signed with the Buckeyes as a five-star defender and the most highly rated player at his position.

Ohio State had a pair of returning starters at cornerback when Sanchez enrolled. He knew moving up the depth chart might prove difficult. Still, he opted to compete.

While he wouldn’t see the field as a freshman, his time to shine could soon be coming. Denzel Burke and Jordan Hancock are both off to the NFL. An opportunity to play in 2025 is there.

Sanchez wasn’t scared of competition. He doesn’t regret the decision to sign with the Buckeyes. He suggested that wasn’t the case for another highly rated prospect.

Devin Sanchez shaded a recruit that rejected Ohio State.

Crazy how you can be a top athlete in your class and don’t want to go to a top school because of the depth chart, just say you’re scared of competing for a spot.

Sanchez called the recruit scared after spurning the Buckeyes and committing elsewhere. He’s since deleted that social media post.

The cornerback did not name names. The timing of his post is curious, though.

The day prior, five-star linebacker Tyler Atkinson gave his pledge to the University of Texas. He is considered the top player at his position in the 2026 class.

He took an unofficial visit to Columbus during the recruiting process. Ohio State is expected to have a pair of upperclassmen starting at linebacker in 2025. There are then four talented freshmen waiting in the wings.

Atkinson might’ve found himself at fifth or sixth on the depth chart upon arriving to campus. Was it a deterrent? Maybe. Maybe not.

Ultimately, he decided to go another direction. He chose Texas over Georgia in a segment on the Pat McAfee Show.

A fake quote then surfaced on social media surrounding that commitment. “I would have a hard time getting playing time over at Georgia,” the post read. “I probably wouldn’t have seen the field until junior or senior year, and building my brand is more important to me.”

Tyler Atkinson did NOT say this. Still, the misinformation went viral.

It’s reasonable to believe Devin Sanchez saw the quote and ran with it. He might’ve been duped by a social media troll! If so, deleting his initial message makes more sense.

Either way, Atkinson plans to play for the Longhorns next season. Sanchez, meanwhile, will look to help Ohio State defend its national title.
