23-year-old Diego Pacheco is nearing the top of the 168 division, and while he’d like to fight Canelo Alvarez, he’s not in a rush to do so.

On Saturday night, Pacheco will face his toughest test when he faces off against veteran Maciej Sulęcki at Dignity Health Sports Park in a fight that will air live on DAZN.

Pacheco hopes that beating a veteran like Sulęcki will get him closer to a title shot at 168 pounds.

“I think he’s a good opponent who’s been in some big world title fights and beat a good fighters as well. said Pacheco. “His resume is a good resume to add to mine. Just another body added to my record.”

While David Benavidez got tired of waiting to for a itle shot at 168 pounds, Pacheco, currently ranked as the #1 contender by the WBO, says he’s in no rush to fight Canelo.

“I’m 23 years old right now, so I’m here to make my own story. Canelo won’t able to hold those belts for the next 10 years. I will reach my dream and become world champion sooner or later. I’m in no rush. I’m young. I feel great. I have my family, my wife, my daughter who I love so much, and I feel amazing to be with them. My career has been going great. 21-0 right now, 22-0 after Saturday. And the only time will tell when I’ll get that world title shot. For now, I’m just trying to make the biggest fights possible. Hopefully soon, I’m trying to earn that shot to fight for the world title.”

As for September 14th’s Canelo-Berlanga fight, Pacheco believes Canelo will easily beat Berlanga.

“I think Canelo is in the position to choose and fight whoever he wants. That’s a good fight. He chose Berlanga. So that’s who he’s fighting now and he fight whoever he wants. And I think it’ll We’ll be a one-sided fight for Canelo, but of course, anything can happen in boxing. So we’ll see what happens on September 14th with them. But of course anything can happen in boxing. I’m ready to fight the winner or the winner of Munguia-Erik Bazinyan or anyone else in the top 10.”

You can catch Pacheo-Sulecki this Saturday live on DAZN.
