Nebraska quarterback Dylan Raiola is not Patrick Mahomes, nor does he strive to be. Despite the similarities between the two passers, he wants fans to know that he’s his own man.
The signal caller sat down with his Cornhusker teammates to discuss the upcoming year in Lincoln. He rejected the “Mini Mahomes” label at one point in the conversation.
Raiola and Mahomes share many traits. They both grew up playing baseball. They’ve been seen with similar haircuts and facial hair. They’re both highly touted signal callers that rep No. 15. Even their pregame warmup is the same.
Many have accused the former of cosplaying the latter during his time with the Cornhuskers. The resemblance is uncanny!

While it seems an intentional attempt to mimic Mahomes, Raiola insists that he isn’t going out of his way to copy the Super Bowl winning quarterback.
Dylan Raiola is different.
The former 5-star passer is looking ahead to Year 2 with the Nebraska football program. He led the Cornhuskers to a bowl game as a sophomore. Now, a College Football Playoff appearance is in his crosshairs.
Raiola threw for 2,819 yards and 13 touchdowns as a freshman. He hopes to continue his growth as a sophomore.
In doing so, he wants to differentiate himself from those previous comps. He aims to be talked about for his on-the-field success while carving his own path.
He does not want to be known as Patrick Mahomes‘ weird twin.
The quarterback is going to extreme lengths to ensure that fans know his name. That includes intimidating young Nebraska fans that continue to call him “Mini Mahomes.”

Dylan Raiola says the similarities are out of his control. He’s tired of hearing the comparisons.
“Every time the little kids around here are like, ‘Hey, mini Mahomes,’ I’m like, ‘What did you say? What’s my name?'” he said. “Yeah, I’m trying to be my own guy.”
Raiola is doing everything in his power to ensure fans drop the Mahomes narrative. Whether you believe he’s been honest in his denial of copycat tendencies is up to you!
