The Detroit Lions lost to the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday Night Football by a score of 16-9, giving the defending Super Bowl champions a leg-up in the race for the #1 seed in the NF playoffs.

After the game, one of the major talking points has been a defensive pass interference call made by the refs in the decisive final moments of the game, which is never a place the NFL wants to be.

With the Detroit Lions trailing by seven points with less than two minutes left in the game, Lions CB Rock Ya-Sin was called for a DPI call on Eagles’ pass catcher AJ Brown during a 3rd-and-8 play from the Philly 37-yard line that ended with a Jalen Hurts incompletion.

Instead of facing 4th-and-8 from their own 37-yard-line, the DPI call gave the Birds an automatic first down, effectively allowing them to run out the rest of the clock and end the game.

A majority of NFL fans were incensed by the call, as it was yet another example of an NFL ref inserting themself into a crucial moment and ultimately effect the outcome of the game.

NFL fans outraged by defensive pass interference call on AJ Brown that helped seal the Eagles Sunday Night Football win over the Lions

With the win, the Eagles improved to 8-2 while the Lions fell to 5-4, which actually puts them third in the NFC North behind the 7-3 Chicago Bears and 6-3-1 Green Bay Packers.
