Charlotte Hornets announcer Eric Collins made his NFL announcing debut on Sunday while calling the Carolina Panthers vs. Miami Dolphins game and became an instant social media star with his electric broadcasting style.
Eric Collins, a graduate of St. Lawrence University and Syracuse University’s S. I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, first became the play-by-play announcer for the Charlotte Hornets in 2015 and has been on the call for the lowly NBA franchise ever since.
While Collins is well-known among Charlotte-area sports fans, his call of the first Week 5 matchup between the Miami Dolphins and Carolina Panthers on Fox represented the first time he got such national attention, and the veteran broadcaster absolutely seized on his moment as he became an instant viral star on social media.

“Watching people discover Eric Collins in real time has been a joy today,” a Hornets beat writer tweeted.
“The NFL would be idiotic to not include Eric Collins in the booth from here on out,” another NFL fan claimed.
“I don’t care what anyone says. Eric Collins is crushing it in Carolina-Miami. He is making an expired ham sandwich feel like a Michelin star experience,” a third succinctly summarized.

Perhaps Collins proved to be a bit of a good luck charm for the Panthers, as they were able to outlast the Dolphins by a score of 27-24 to improve their record on the season to 2-3.
