The New York Jets decided not to try and score before halftime against the Denver Broncos on Sunday and Garrett Wilson was not happy with head coach Aaron Glenn. Every single player on both sides of the ball was completely baffled by the horrendous clock management.
That sentiment also goes for the fans, analysts and coaches who aren’t Glenn.
It was one of the worst two-minute drives in NFL history. I am not being hyperbolic.
The New York Jets didn’t call a timeout or run a play.
We begin this story at the three-minute and 22-second mark in the second quarter. New York trailed Denver 10-6. It had the ball on its own 16-yard-line with a chance to go score before halftime.
The first few plays of the drive went pretty well.
- Four-yard run
- Zero-yard run
- TIMEOUT BRONCOS
- Eight-yard pass
- TWO MINUTE WARNING
- Six-yard run
- Two-yard pass
- TIMEOUT BRONCOS
- One-yard run
The Jets faced 4th-and-1 from their own 37-yard-line with one minute and four seconds remaining. Aaron Glenn elected to call a timeout to talk it over. He ultimately called a fake punt— and it worked!
New York called its second timeout after the successful conversion on fourth down. It had a fresh set of downs with one timeout left and one minute on the clock.
Glenn decided to run the ball on first down for a gain of five. A sack on second down was not ideal.
He called his third and final timeout.
Garrett Wilson yelled at Aaron Glenn.
The Jets completed a short pass over the middle on 3rd-and-7 after the timeout. They had approximately 20 seconds to run at least one more play, a Hail Mary to the end zone, on 4th-and-1.
Glenn instead decided to let the clock expire. Why? Great question.
Garrett Wilson gave his head coach a piece of his mind as they walked together back to the locker room.
Garrett Wilson calling his coach a dumbass for letting the clock run out on a 4th and 1 at the end of the half. Jets need anything they can get smh pic.twitter.com/KrxdGt1ZuC

Good thing the New York Jets ran that fake punt! They made sure the Denver Broncos didn’t get the ball back and then they stopped trying.
