Georgia’s Kirby Smart Lies To Refs About Not Calling Timeout & Gets Away With It

ESPN/ABC

Georgia head coach Kirby Smart blatantly lied to the refs and was rewarded for it. Early in the fourth quarter of the Georgia-Auburn game, the Bulldogs were about to get called for a delay of game penalty for not being able to snap the ball in time.

Before the delay of game penalty was called, Smart appeared to signal for a timeout on the sideline, and the refs stopped the game.

Smart denied that he was calling a timeout, which led to the refs giving Georgia their timeout back, not calling a delay of game penalty on the play, and resetting the game clock.

Sideline video shows Smart was clearly lying to the refs, and was indeed trying to call a timeout.

Fans ripped into the SEC refs over the missed call.

“Kirby Smart just successfully gaslighted this SEC officiating crew btw” commented one fan.

“Hey @SEC. what the hell is this sh–show you have going on for Georgia/Auburn? Kirby Smart just blatantly lied to a referee and they still didn’t do anything.” said another fan.

The SEC will likely be forced to address Smart’s timeout situation after the game.
