Early in the NBA season, the Milwaukee Bucks were left for dead amid a terrible start. Now, Giannis Antetokounmpo has led them to the in-season NBA Cup title as their season as stabilized.
Who did Giannis want to celebrate with after the big win? You guessed it, injured Bucks teammate and brother Thanasis Antetokounmpo.
While Giannis has a chance to finish his career as one of the ten-or-so best players of all-time, brother Thanasis is along for the ride. While people get on the Los Angeles Lakers for drafting Bronny James to play with LeBron, Thanasis may be the bigger case of nepotism. Watch Thanasis play, and you can quickly tell he shouldn’t be anywhere close to an NBA roster. The same is true for Bronny James at this stage, but at least he has potential. Thanasis, at 32, does not.
But, Giannis Antetokounmpo wants to play with his brother, and that’s a small price to pay to keep one of the greatest players of all-time happy.
The Bucks started 1-6, with talk of Giannis demanding a trade soon swirling. Since, they’re 13-5, including Tuesday night’s NBA Cup Finals win over the Oklahoma City Thunder. Giannis led the way with 26 points and 19 boards for another monster performance. The 30-year old is firmly in the MVP race.
Thanasis is not in the MVP race, to say the least. He tore his Achilles last spring and remains sidelines. But, the person that Giannis wanted to celebrate with after the big win was his brother. Take a look.
