Freshman defensive end Gus Cordova is gearing up for his first season at USC. The pass rusher signed with the Trojans last December after wrapping up his high school career at Lake Travis.
Cordova is getting acclimated to life in a D1 football program. Part of that involves weight training and diet. The defender gave his social media following a look at his new regimen this spring.
Cordova was a three-star recruit from Austin, Texas that boasted more than 60 college offers. He picked the Trojans over the likes of Auburn, Clemson, Florida, Texas, Oklahoma, and many more.
Despite the interest, his recruitment was briefly put on hold as a high schooler. Cordova was involved in a controversial incident that took place in his team locker room.
The lineman was one of several Lake Travis players that allegedly put peanuts in the locker of a teammate they knew had a potentially fatal allergy. The Trojans received significant backlash for taking his commitment.
Gus Cordova and his family apologized for their role in the incident. “What my kid did was not right,” his mom said after the fact. “He shouldn’t have done any of this. I don’t take this lightly.” Now, he’s hoping to put that past behind him and look ahead to the future.
Gus Cordova detailed his 6,000-calorie diet.

The video came in response to a question asked by one of his online followers: “What are they feeding you?” Cordova went onto show everything he’s been eating to get ready for his freshman season.
This particular list included 12 waffles, three bananas, 2.5 pounds of sirloin, 150 grams of white rice, and a protein shake – and that was before noon! He also had a dinner meal with family.
In all, his meals totaled 5,840 calories, 381 grams of protein, 725 grams of carbs, and 158 grams of fat. He suggested that this was a very typical day.
The diet appears to be working. Gus Cordova is listed at 255 pounds on his USC bio, up 10 pounds from his high school recruiting profile weight.
The defender is looking to beef up before facing Big Ten offensive lines. We’ll see if it helps him see the field in Year 1.
