If you consider yourself an action movie fan and don’t consider The Raid and its sequel to be two of the Top 5ish action movies you’ve ever seen, then you’re simply wrong. Directed by Gareth Evans, The Raid films became a stand bearer for hand-to-hand combat in action films that would see its influence lay the foundation for the John Wick franchise.
Since directing The Raid in 2011 and its sequel in 2014, Evans directed the 2018 Netflix horror film Apostle and the Sky Atlantic/AMC series Gangs of London. His new film Havoc, however, looks set to be the biggest movie of his career thus far as it stars none other than Tom Hardy, the first time that Evans has had a bonafide A-lister lead one of his films. This year has seen Hardy star in both The Bikeriders and Venom: The Last Dance.
Set to be released on Netflix next year, Havoc was actually shot in 2021 and has been something of a mystery in recent years, with virtually no updates coming since it wrapped production in October 2021. On Monday, however, Netflix finally released a first-look image of Hardy in the project and confirmed it would premiere in 2025.
According to the streamer, Havoc is about “a detective who fights his way through a criminal underworld to rescue a politician’s son — unraveling a web of corruption and conspiracy ensnaring his entire city — after a drug deal gone wrong.”
