NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport is one of the NFL’s best insiders. When he talks, people listen and take it as the truth, as he always has a well-sourced scoop.
On Tuesday, Rapoport posted a tweet containing a paragraph written by a lawyer representing ampa Bay Buccaneers running back Rachaad White dealing with a “situation”. But, nobody has any idea what situation he’s talking about.

“The FBI and other appropriate authorities are currently looking into an extortion attempt against Rachaad White. Illegal and defamatory threats and demands against Rachaad and his family will be met with zero tolerance. We will continue to exercise all legal avenues to protect Rachaad’s rights as a victim of extortion.”
That’s a normal lawyer statement. But, what’s weird about this is when Rapoport posted the tweet just past 4:30PM on Tuesday, there was no public knowledge of any “situation” involving Rachaad White.

It’s clear that White seems to be the target of an extortion plot. But, the way that Ian Rapoport posted that tweet without any context makes it seem like something is amiss.
White, one of the better pass-catching running backs in the NFL, ran for 613 yards and had 51 catches for 393 yards and 6 touchdowns to go along with 3 touchdowns on the ground in his third season in the league.
