Netflix has released the trailer for America’s Team: The Gambler and His Cowboys, a documentary about Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones. While a specific release date was not provided, Netflix says the documentary will release next year.

Jerry Jones is the the owner, president, and general manager of the Dallas Cowboys, which he purchased from Harvey ‘Bum’ Bright in 1989.

Given his role as the team’s general manager in addition to being the owner, Jones has always been a unique and controversial figure in the NFL.

“In 2025 go inside the story of the Dallas Cowboys owner, president and general manager Jerry Jones risked everything for a chance at transforming and leading the franchise to three NFL titles in the 1990s, and searing his imprint into the global sports business landscape.”

“From Emmy-winning directors Chapman and Maclain Way, and featuring interviews with Troy Aikman, Michael Irvin, Emmitt Smith, Deion Sanders Jimmy Johnson, Barry Switzer, and more, America’s Team: The Gambler and His Cowboys tells the tale of the most valuable sports franchise in the world.” [via Netflix]

Jones paid $140 million for the Dallas Cowboys when he bought them in Februay 1989, which is equivalent to about $300 million today (adjusted for infaltion). The franchise is now estimated to be worth around $10 billion.

While the Cowboys are a successful business operation, its a different story when it comes to their results on the field, as they haven’t appeared in an NFC Championship Game since 2009.

Dallas has won three Super Bowls under Jones’ ownership, however, they all came a generation ago in 1993, 1994, and 1996. Jones’ Cowboys are currently in the midst of a lost season, as the team has a 6-8 record heading into Week 16.

While losing franchise quarterback Dak Prescott to a season-ending injury certainly didn’t help, the Cowboys roster showed serious flaws early in the season when Prescott was healthy, with many fans and analysts blaming the state of the team on Jones.
