Jerry Jones pulled the trigger on an NFL trade deadline day deal, as the notorious owner of the Dallas Cowboys acquired 23-year-old Carolina Panthers wide receiver Jonathan Mingo for a fourth-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.

While Mingo, an alumnus of Ole Miss, has the pedigree of being the 39th overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, he’s yet to put it together in the pros, as he has just 55 catches for 539 yards and zero touchdowns in his 24 career games played (at the time of this writing).

After the news of the trade broke, NFL fans have been ripping Jones for the deal, with many noting that Jerry Jones paid a more expensive price for the unproven Mingo than the Chiefs did for future Hall of Famer Deandre Hopkins and the Ravens for proven veteran Diontae Johnson, who has a 1,000-yard season under his belt (2021 with the Pittsburgh Steelers).

The Cowboys also spent more on Mingo (a 4th-round pick) than they got in return when they traded Pro Bowler Amari Cooper to the Browns in March 2022 (a 5th-round pick).

“The Dallas Cowboys gave up more to get Jonathan Mingo than the Kansas City Chiefs did to get DeAndre Hopkins. Lord have mercy,” added former Heisman Trophy winner Robert Griffin III.

“Jerry Jones trading a fourth-round pick for a wide receiver (with zero career touchdowns in 24 games) and seventh-round pick, when his team is 3-5 and just put the franchise QB on IR, is certainly a choice,” one tweet about the trade from a Charlotte Observer reporter reads.

“The Cowboys gave up more for Jonathan Mingo than Chiefs gave up for DeAndre Hopkins and the Ravens gave up for Diontae Johnson. Jerry Jones is out here doing shit just to say he did because he can’t admit the rest of the season is irrelevant. (It is.) Clown organization,” said another.

Sitting at 3-5 and facing a stretch of games with starting quarterback Dak Prescott on the sidelines with a hamstring injury, the Cowboys’ season is looking like it’ll be over before they host the New York Giants on Thanksgiving Day in a few weeks.
