Jim Harbaugh Stays Hilariously On Brand With Game Ball After Chargers Victory Over Saints

Things haven’t been easy for Jim Harbaugh in his first season as the head coach of the Los Angeles Chargers.

But after an up-and-down start, LA got on track Sunday with a dominant 26-8 victory over the New Orleans Saints. The Chargers also began to finally reflect the personality of their charismatic head coach in their play style, which lead to offensive lineman Bradley Bozeman taking home a game ball for an amusing reason.

Bozeman and Charges O-Line were solid. They helped a rushing attack that went for 122 yards and 4.2 yards per carry while allowing just three sacks. But they were far from spectacular.

Instead, the 29-year-old center in his first season in LA snagged a game ball for a different reason.

Jim Harbaugh Hands Out Game Ball To Lineman Who Defended Justin Herbert

Mid-way through the game, Saints defensive tackle Nathan Shepherd took what can only be classified as a cheap shot at Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert. Shepherd grabbed Herbert by the ankle and began to twist well after the ball was gone.

Bozeman, understandably, took exception to this and wiped out the New Orleans player, shoving him into the ground several times. He picked up a 15-yard penalty for unnecessary roughness on the play, but didn’t back down from the decision after the game.

“It was probably one of the dirtier plays I’ve ever seen,” Bozeman said. “You protect your quarterback no matter what. And I think any of our offensive linemen that was in my position would’ve done the same thing.”

Harbaugh seemingly agreed, because he gave his team captain a game ball in the locker room following the victory.

The win moves the Chargers to 4-3 on the year and as they get healthy, they look like more and more of a threat to nail down an AFC Wild Card spot.

If you’re going to play for Jim Harbaugh, you have to be tough. Los Angeles hasn’t been tough for several years now. But it looks like that’s beginning to change, and as the Chargers get more talent in the building, that could spell bad news for the rest of the NFL.
