J.J. Watt Has Helped Raise Almost $6 Million (And Counting) For Hurricane Harvey Victims

If you’ve been paying at least a little bit of attention to the news, you know the current situation in Texas is a dire one. Hurricane Harvey has been responsible for an immense amount of flooding and damage in the region, which has resulted in an outpouring of support from people around the world.

Athletes have been especially generous when it comes to helping out, including UFC fighter Derrick Lewis, who has been driving around Houston in his truck in search of people in need. Others who are unable to be there in person have pledged their support in the form of donations, and while it’s certainly not a competition, I would argue no one has done more to help than JJ Watt.

The Houston Texans linebacker gave $100,000 of his own money to the relief efforts and set up a YouCaring page with the initial goal of raising $200,000, which was quickly surpassed. Watt has repeatedly raised the goal over the past few days, and as of this writing, he had raised a staggering $5.7 million.

Watt now has his eyes set on $6 million, which seems well within reach based on the pace of the donations so far. In a video message on Twitter, he said,”The most difficult times seem to bring out the best in humanity and that’s showing through right now so much.” It’s truly refreshing to see people come together like they have.
