Stadiums and arenas have to deal with a ton of logistical issues that can be complicated when they’re home to a sports team that ends up making the playoffs. The building where the Phoenix Mercury play recently encountered that problem, and we were treated to an unexpected feud between the supporters of the team and fans of the Jonas Brothers.
You’d be hard-pressed to find many venues that are home to a professional sports franchise that don’t supplement the income from their games with concerts and other events that have the potential to draw similarly large crowds.
It’s fairly easy to juggle commitments during the regular season when you consider those schedules tend to be revealed months in advance of the start of a campaign, but there’s only so much you can do to prepare for a possible playoff run that has the potential to interfere with shows booked for a date where the team may or may not still be playing.
The Golden State Valkyrie were recently forced to play their first-ever playoff game in the arena that’s home to the San Jose Sharks after the Chase Center prioritized a tennis tournament over the WNBA team that surpassed expectations during its inaugural season.
The Phoenix Mercury, on the other hand, don’t have to be worried about being booted out of PHX Arena during a postseason run that’s brought them a couple of games away from punching their ticket to the WNBA Finals. However, their dramatic comeback against the Lynx in Game 2 caused a headache for some Jonas Brothers fans who were not thrilled with the band being forced to reschedule.
Phoenix Mercury fans did not stand for the slander thrown their way by some Jonas Brothers diehards online
The Jonas Brothers are currently making the rounds for what has officially been dubbed the “Jonas20: Greetings from Your Hometown Tour.” Most of the dates were announced back in March, which included the show that was supposed to take place at PHX Arena on September 28th.
However, the Mercury threw a hitch in that plan on Tuesday when they rallied from a 20-point deficit against the Lynx en route to an 89-83 victory to even their conference finals series at one game apiece. That win ensured Phoenix will host Game 4, but it also resulted in a conflict that forced the Jonas Brothers to move their show to Monday night.
That did not sit well with a vocal minority of JoBro devotees who voiced their frustration online while firing some shots at the Mercury, including one fan account that attracted the wrath of the Phoenix faithful in a now-deleted tweet where it trotted out an outdated WNBA criticism.

The account did attempt to do some damage control after Mercury fans mobilized against it, although the non-apology didn’t do much to call off the hordes.
Why are people so shocked the Jonas Brothers have fans and that they are upset by this? This is a sold out show of 18k+ people, being completely changed four days before the concert. If you are a fan of a basketball team why can’t we be a fan of a band. https://t.co/Et40pkoGp1

Maroon 5 and Stevie Nicks will be playing at the PHX Center the week after the WNBA Finals kick off, but neither date will pose a conflict if the Mercury get the chance to play for a championship.
