Former 5-star wide receiver Jurrion Dickey’s future with the Oregon football team is unclear at the moment. He’s rumored to have been kicked off the team following an altercation with a teammate.
The length of that removal from the Ducks roster is not known, though initial reports suggest the suspension to be temporary. The pass catcher got cryptic with a response online to further build the drama.
Like every other major college football program, Oregon is in the midst of fall camp. The regular season starts in less than three weeks with an August 30th opener set against Montana State.
Jurrion Dickey was expected to make an impact. That may or may not happen.
Who is Jurrion Dickey?
Dickey signed with the Ducks as a Top 20 player nationally in the 2023 recruiting cycle. A California native, he chose Dan Lanning over offers from Georgia, Tennessee, Penn State, Southern Cal, and more.
He took visits to Miami and Washington, and at one point in time, named Arkansas his leader. Ultimately, he spurned those suitors for Oregon.
Dickey has all the tools, which include confirmed 4.5 speed and a 37-inch vertical. The 6′ 2″ pass catcher was one of the most sought after prospects in high school football.
To this point, his college production has been minimal. He’s been buried on the depth chart across his first two seasons, recording two catches for a total of 14 yards.
That was likely to change in 2025. The redshirt sophomore planned to be in the rotation. His attitude has reportedly put his playing time in doubt.
Is the Oregon wideout suspended?
The Daily Emerald broke the situation down on Monday. The outlet says that Jurrion Dickey is temporarily off the team.
Sources close to the team have told The Daily Emerald that wide receiver and former five-star recruit Jurrion Dickey is no longer with the team, but according to Max Torres of On3, this is only intended to be a temporary measure.
Dickey reportedly has a history of bad relationships with teammates and staff throughout the football program. According to team sources and the report from On3, the behavior allegedly culminated in a fight with an undisclosed member of the receiver room on Sunday. While the immediate precursors and actions that caused the fight are unknown, he has allegedly been involved in multiple altercations during his two full seasons in Eugene.
Dickey’s believed to have been in numerous fights across his two years in Eugene. The latest, which may have occurred on Sunday, was apparently the tipping point.
For now, the suspension is short-term. Oregon is expected to allow him a chance to work his way back with the team.
The wideout got cryptic on the noise surrounding his potential punishment with a Monday post on social media.
The post showed images of Jurrion Dickey at practice. The song playing over the slideshow was “Tunnel Vision” by Kodak Black.
The underlying theme of the tune is about staying focused on the main goal despite challenges and distractions.
They don’t wanna see you winnin’ /
They wanna see you in the penitentiary…Right now, I gotta keep a tunnel vision
According to the post, Dickey plans to make football the main priority. Hopefully, that means putting disagreements with teammates behind him.
Should he be unable to do so, it might mean chasing his dreams elsewhere.
