What happened to Jurrion Dickey? That was the question everybody wanted to know about the former five-star college football recruit.
As it would turn out, he left Oregon in August and not by choice.
Dan Lanning finally revealed the truth earlier this week. Nobody seemed to notice that he is playing college football at a junior college in Northern California.
Who is Jurrion Dickey?
Dickey ranked as the No. 2 pass-catcher in the recruiting Class of 2023 and a top-25 player overall. He was considered a five-star prospect at 6-foot-2.5, 211 pounds.
Oregon ultimately received his commitment over UCLA, Penn State, Georgia, USC, Tennessee, and ~15 others. It was a huge get for Lanning, who was a second-year head coach at the time.
Nike founder Phil Knight is pumping a lot of NIL money into the Ducks. Especially on the recruiting trail.
I cannot say for certain because I have not seen the numbers but would imagine Jurrion Dickey received a pretty sizable paycheck in correspondance with his commitment. Likely six, or close to seven figures.
Unfortunately, his time with the program never quite worked out.
Oregon didn’t work out.
Dickey appeared in only five games as a freshman in 2023 and took a redshirt. He recorded his only catch of the year during the a blowout win over Liberty in the first round of the College Football Playoff.
2024 was more or less the same.
Although Dickey played in 10 of Oregon’s 14 games, he caught only one pass for seven yards. It was an underwhelming redshirt freshman season— to say the least.
And yet, there was some buzz that he might enter the transfer portal with interest from other Power Four programs that thought they could fix him. He didn’t. He stuck with the Ducks.
That did not last long.
Oregon dominated Montana State to begin the new season. It stomped Oklahoma State 69-3 last weekend.
Jurrion Dickey did not record a single catch. In fact, he was never on the field.
Where’d he go?
Dan Lanning revealed that Dickey was either kicked off the team or left. It started with a suspension on Aug. 12.
“We’ve got two team rules: be respectful and be on time,” Lanning said. “There are some pieces of that where I felt like he needed a break from us, and we needed a break from him, so we can focus on what’s in front of us right now. Wishing nothing but the best as far as success, and I want to see him get back to where he could be as a contributor.”
As it would turn out, Dickey has been playing at Diablo Valley College, a community college outside of San Francisco, for at least 10 days. Nobody noticed!
Jurrion Dickey recorded two catches for 53 yards and a touchdown with the Vikings last weekend.

Surprise! The former five-star wide receiver looks like he could be a legitimate weapon.
I would assume his hope is to transfer back up to a P4 program in the spring. He apparently needs to get his attitude in check before that can happen because the on-field talent is not the problem. Maybe this will serve as the reality check he needs.
