Vanderbilt will play Kentucky in Lexington on Saturday after one of the biggest upsets in college football history. Both teams are going to wear the same color uniforms even though they do not share the same school colors.

The confusing on-field optics stem from a very unintelligent decision by the home team.

Fans are encouraged to wear black to the game. It is homecoming weekend for the Wildcats and the ‘Blackout’ is intended to provide some extra juice to the crowd.

Kentucky is going to wear black jerseys and black cleats to match the theme.

Fans are furious with the decision for two reasons.

First and foremost, the Blackout was announced on Thursday night. This was not a pre-planned theme that has been in the works for months. Fans have not looked forward to this all year. It’s not that exciting.

More importantly, the choice of color does not make any sense!

The Wildcats do not wear black often. Kentucky’s primary colors are blue and white.

The Commodores always wear black. Vanderbilt’s primary colors are black and gold.

Kroger Field is going to be wrapped in black. Both teams will also wear black. In fact, the visiting team will actually wear even more black on its uniforms than the home team during its own blackout.

Whomever is responsible for the University of Kentucky’s decision to hold a Blackout game against an opponent that only wears black should be demoted. It is a really bad idea that didn’t really require too much additional thought.

There will be more black in the crowd at a Commodores game on the road than there is at their home field. Visiting fans usually take over Nashville. It will be the opposite in this instance.

The Wildcats landed on a last-minute Blackout at the worst time!
