Lane Kiffin’s son, Knox, is a quarterback in the 2028 recruiting class. Despite his young age, he is already garnering attention from notable college football programs.
He hopes to one day play in the SEC. He will not, however, play for his father.
The passer dropped a hint about his dream schools during a recent podcast appearance. Ole Miss did not make the list.
Instead, LSU and Florida were named as top contenders alongside Oregon. Kiffin further broke down his thought process in an interview with Rivals.
Knox Kiffin learned from Shedeur Sanders.
“I’m definitely not going to play for my dad,” he said in that conversation. “I understand what Shedeur (Sanders) did, but I don’t want to be in the position for fans to say, ‘The only reason you’re playing is because of your dad.’
“I want to beat my dad. I want to play against him, not play with him… He understands. Sometimes he’ll be like, ‘Oh, you should play with me,’ but he understands that I want to start my own thing, my own legacy.”
Knox Kiffin wants to carve his own path. He does not want the perception that a job was handed to him.
Shedeur Sanders experienced this firsthand at Colorado. The quarterback was named the Buffs’ starting quarterback 24 hours after his dad accepted the head coaching gig.
Deion Sanders attempted to quiet that narrative, but it persisted throughout his tenure in Boulder, nonetheless.

Knox Kiffin will not let the storyline follow him throughout his college career. He plans to create his own legacy.
Kiffin will visit LSU soon.
He plans to be in Baton Rouge when the Tigers take on South Carolina. It will give him an up-close look at the program as his recruitment heats up.
Interestingly enough, Knox isn’t the only of Kiffin’s kids being drawn to LSU.
His daughter, Landry, hard launched a relationship with Tigers linebacker Whit Weeks earlier this season. She had rooting interests on each side while watching the Rebels down LSU last Saturday.
Should things work out how Knox Kiffin envisions, he could very well be playing against his dad in the coming years.
With that being said, there is still a way to go in his recruitment. According to his Instagram page, he holds notable offers from schools like SMU, Florida International, and Western Kentucky.
He’ll keep working on his first SEC scholarship opportunity over the next few seasons. Given his recent recruiting update, it likely won’t come from his father!
