No One Has Ever Been On A Bigger Power Trip Than This Little League Umpire

If you’ve ever gotten roped into being an umpire at a Little League game, then I don’t have to tell you what a thankless job you’re usually signing up for when you agree to get behind the plate.

If you somehow manage to have a perfect game of your own, it will go largely unacknowledged. If you don’t, you’re going to be on the receiving end of some abuse— whether we’re talking about being yelled at by the coaches or getting met by a parent brandishing his kid’s Easton in the parking lot.

At least you usually get a free cheeseburger out of it.

During my time playing baseball as a kid, I came across plenty of umps who used Little League games as an excuse to go on a power trip, but I don’t know if I’ve ever seen anyone who took things as seriously as one grown adult male did in a recent game between a bunch of kids who haven’t hit puberty.

The Little League World Series is set to kick off in Williamsport next week, which is one of my favorite yearly traditions based almost entirely on the nicknames of the players competing for the championship.

Teams are still playing for a chance to get to take the trip to Pennsylvania, and while there’s still plenty of baseball to be played, I’m confident we’re not going to see a worse umpire this year than the one in charge of overseeing a Southeast Regional qualifier on Monday.

During the second inning of a game between the teams repping Alabama and Georgia, Georgia’s Chase Fralick managed to piss off the guy behind the plate by having the nerve to walk to first baseball after an obvious ball on a 3-0 pitch— but the ump was just getting started.

I can’t think of a better way to describe my reaction to this series of events than the guy who posted the video of them.

Despite the best efforts of the ump, Georgia managed to come away with an 8-3 victory.
