LSU administrators and university executives have held and are holding high-level discussions over the future of football coach Brian Kelly, sources tell @YahooSport. While there is no immediate resolution, the conversations – which involve the state’s governor – are on-going.

The situation in Baton Rouge is made complicated as the university is searching for a permanent president (the school announced five finalists). In its absence, Gov. Jeff Landry has become integral and is expected, if he hasn’t already, to meet with key donors and board members.

Kelly met with LSU AD Scott Woodward, and they had a heated confrontation over which staff members needed to be fired.

Outkick’s Trey Wallace provided more details on the heated meeting between Kelly and Woodward.

When Brian Kelly arrived at the LSU facility on Sunday morning, he was going through a list of assistant coaches that could potentially be fired. That led to a meeting with Scott Woodward, where both sides presented a case as to who should be let go.

It was at that moment that the relationship took a turn. Kelly immediately left the facility after that meeting, which is when AD Scott Woodward informed assistant coaches that they should go home for the day.

Immediately after, Governor Jeff Landry was called, where discussions shifted towards the buyout, and if it were going to be a problem to expensive to overcome.

Hours after the confrontation, ON3’s Pete Nakos reported that LSU had fired Kelly.

Nakos reports that Frank Wilson is expected to take over for Kelly.
