For this week in dumb criminal news, we go to a Tim Horton’s drive-thru at the Westwood Mall in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada.
It all went down at around 6:30 p.m. local time on Tuesday when Peel Regional Police responded to an emergency call about an allegedly stolen Ford Bronco.
Police officers were told by the caller that the man driving the Ford Bronco had actually stolen the SUV from that exact same location a few weeks earlier and, for some reason, had now returned to the Tim Horton’s in the same vehicle.
The caller also told Peel Regional Police that they believed the suspect had weapons in his possession, though reports don’t state what they were or if that was true.
Upon arriving at the scene, several Peel Regional Police officers drew their guns when they saw the man in question was, in fact, at the Tim Horton’s, assuming that he was armed.
Then, despite numerous guns being pointed at him and two police cruisers blocking the allegedly stolen Ford Bronco, the suspect brazenly jumped into the SUV, fired it up and tried driving over one of the police cars in a very misguided attempt to escape. This caused one of the police officers to dive out of the vehicle in an act of self-preservation.
Naturally, the entire scene was caught on video.
Global News say police reported that “no one was injured but that their vehicles did sustain damage.”
After the 25-year-old driver of the Ford Bronco came to a stop, lodged on top of one of the cruisers, another police officer pulled his vehicle up behind the SUV, blocking that possible path of escape.
The suspect was then arrested and now faces six charges including three counts of possession of property obtained by crime, flight from a peace officer, dangerous operation of a vehicle, and obstructing a police officer. He was reportedly held in custody for a bail hearing.
